Carrollton
Avenue is a mixture of antebellum homes, small businesses, coffee shops and restaurants.
The river bend section where Carrollton Ave. meets ST. Charles Ave. offers quaint
neighborhood shopping.
Originally acquired in 1719 by Bienville, the
founder of New Orleans, the neighborhood occupies an area stretching from the
Orleans/Jefferson line to Broadway and from Airline Highway to the Mississippi
River.
The
community was named after General William Carroll who commanded a portion of General
Andrew Jacksons army in 1814. Carrollton was incorporated into the city
in 1845.
Today the streets are lined with stately mansions, charming
bungalows, renovated cottages and revenue producing doubles. Carrollton Avenue
is located on the streetcar line and offers direct access to many amenities including
Tulane and Loyola Universities.
